From your Cairns accommodation, travel two hours into the Australian highlands where your tree-top cottage awaits. Enjoy living in a unique pole & timber tree-house in Rose Gum Wilderness Retreat's cool tropical climate. Wonder at the spectacular rainforest and mountain scenery and explore the walking tracks through the 230 acre property. Escape to total privacy with no sign of civilisation (not even another tree-house). Be amazed by the abundant wildlife including over 160 bird species.

Australia’s biggest rock, Uluru, or Ayers Rock as it is commonly known, makes the Red Centre of Australia its home. You will fly out to the middle of Australia where you will discover this wonder. To fully appreciate the vastness of this area you will need to experience the sunset and sunrise. Explore the mysteries of time, rare indigenous Aboriginal culture, local history and customs in this area. Enjoy dinner under the stars in the Australian outback with your family. This magical evening is to step outside the world for a moment.

Fly to Sydney and spend two nights exploring Sydney's unique suburbs and historical centers. Enjoy a full day adventure by 4WD into the Blue Mountains and visit a wildlife sanctuary. Experience a one in a lifetime journey into the Taronga Zoo with its Roar and Snore Package. Spend a night under the stars in permanent tents set up in the middle of the zoo with views of the Sydney harbour from the front door of your tent! Take two behind the scenes tours into the zoo where the normal public does not normally have access to. An unforgettable experience that the whole family will enjoy!

Finish this epic tour in Melbourne. Watch the famous Penguin's Parade and enjoy the dramatic scenery of wild cliff tops and shipwrecks.

Itinerary

  • Australia

Australia is the world's smallest continent, and includes Tasmania and other islands. Prior to European settlement in the late 1700s and early 1800s, the Australian mainland was inhabited by around 250 individual nations of indigenous Australians for around 40,000 years. After sporadic visits by fishermen from the north and then European discovery by Dutch explorers in 1606, the eastern half of Australia was later claimed by the British in 1770 and initially settled through penal transportation to the colony of New South Wales. As the population grew and new areas were explored, another five largely self-governing Crown Colonies were established during the 19th century. On 1 January 1901, the six colonies became a federation, and the Commonwealth of Australia was formed. \There are iconic sights "down under" that find their way on most itineraries; Sydney (Opera House, Harbour Bridge), Ayers Rock, the Great Barrier Reef, Melbourne. Other gems include the wild nature of Tasmania, vineyards of Hunter Valley, surfing on the Gold Coast, Adelaide, Darwin ... and more.

  • Atherton Tablelands

The Atherton Tablelands (also known as the Cairns Highlands) is 90kms south-west of Cairns ranges from 500m to 1280m above sea level and covers 620km². Cairns Highlands total population is approximately 12,000 people.Cairns Highlands is renowned for its mild tropical climate and is spared the climatic extremes of floods, droughts and destructive cyclonic winds. Its pleasant temperatures range between 17°C and 25°C from September to June and between 5°C and 14°C from July to August. Cairns Highlands enjoys cool summer nights and mild, sunny winter days and does not suffer from the high humidity experienced in coastal areas.

  • Ayers Rock

Uluru, also referred to as Ayers Rock, is a large sandstone rock formation in the southern part of the Northern Territory, central Australia. It lies 335 km (208 mi) south west of the nearest large town, Alice Springs; 450 km (280 mi) by road. Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and Uluru are the two major features of the Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park. Uluru is sacred to the Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara, the Aboriginal people of the area. It has many springs, waterholes, rock caves and ancient paintings. Uluru is listed as a World Heritage Site.

  • Cairns

The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system, composed of over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for 2,600 kilometres (1,600 mi) over an area of approximately 344,400 square kilometres (133,000 sq mi). The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland in northeast Australia. This reef structure is composed of and built by billions of tiny organisms, known as coral polyps. The Great Barrier Reef supports a wide diversity of life, and was selected as a World Heritage Site in 1981.

  • Melbourne

Melbourne is the second most populous city in Australia, and is located around Port Phillip Bay in the south-east. The city is often referred to as Australia's 'sporting and cultural capital' and it is home to many of the nation's most significant cultural and sporting events and institutions. Melbourne is notable for its mix of Victorian and contemporary architecture, its extensive tram network and Victorian parks and gardens, as well as its diverse, multicultural society.

  • Sydney

Sydney is the most populous city in Australia, with a metropolitan area population of approximately 4.28 million. It is the state capital of New South Wales, and the site of the first British colony in Australia, established in 1788 at Sydney Cove by Arthur Phillip, leader of the First Fleet from Britain. Located on Australia's south-east coast, the city is built around Port Jackson, which includes Sydney Harbour, leading to the city's nickname, "the Harbour City". It is noted for the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, and its beaches. The metropolitan area is surrounded by national parks, and contains many bays, rivers and inlets.

  • Collectibles

Australia is famous for its marsupial species that include kangaroos, wombats, wallabies, Tasmanian devils and of course the cuddly koalas. These bear-like animals are found in South Eastern Australia and were given the name "koala" by Aboriginals, a word that means "no drink". The Koala obtains enough moisture from the eucalyptus leaves that it feeds on, a plant that would be indigestible to most other life forms.

  • Culinary Delights

There is much more to Australian barbeques than shrimp. Northern Territory barbeques feature indigenous fare like barramundi, kangaroo, emu, ostrich as well as chicken and lamb grilled on the barbecue with oil and seasoning. Of course an outback barbeque is never complete without billy tea at the end. This is simply tea boiled in a tin container known as a "billy".

  • Historic Moment

The Australian "Slouch" hat, or "Digger" hat, is nearly as old as the Australian fighting man. Originating in the army, it traditionally has a leather chin strap made from rabbit-fur felt or wool felt, and is turned up on the side (originally perhaps to keep out of the way of a lance or rifle). It also helps stay clear of that scorching outback sun!
